Application Procedure:

  1. Once you have obtained all the required documentation, visit the Police Station in your district to pay the application fee and then drop off the documents at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Belmopan.
  2. Wait until they call you to come in and do a vetting, which is a background check interview by the Special Branch Police Unit. They will ask you questions about the reason you are applying for a firearm license, call the persons that recommended you, and also visit your address to determine if your home is secure with a fence, burglar bars on your windows, etc. It could take 3 to 6 months until vetting is completed.
  3. Once vetting is done, a report is made and sent with your application to the Firearms and Ammunition Control Board. Once it is approved or denied you will be notified.
    • Note that all licenses are approved only by the Firearms and Ammunition Control Board.
    • The timeline could be from 3 months to 1 year until you will receive a response if you are approved or denied.
  4. Once you have received your approval letter you can visit any licensed gun dealer to purchase a firearm specified on your approval letter.
    • To purchase a firearm, you will need your original approval letter, your passport or social security card and funds to pay for the firearm. Additionally, you will need to bring a police officer along to escort the firearm to the police station where a license will be issued for that firearm.
